From Red Bull promise to Aston Martin exit
Fallows joined Aston Martin as technical director in 2022. The team had high hopes, banking on his experience under Adrian Newey at Red Bull.
The start of 2023 looked promising, especially with Fernando Alonso scoring six podiums in eight races. But 2024 has been a reality check. Aston Martin dropped back to the midfield, far from its early-season form.
“His disappointing run led to a quiet demotion last November,” reports Autosport.
He was reassigned to Aston Martin Performance Technologies as “chief engineer”. Now, he’s expected to leave entirely in the coming weeks.
A new era under Cowell’s leadership
Fallows’ exit is part of a broader overhaul under new CEO Andy Cowell, the former Mercedes engine boss.
Mike Krack, who previously led the team, will now focus on trackside operations. Meanwhile, Ferrari’s Enrico Cardile has been appointed chief technical officer and will take charge of factory development once his gardening leave ends.
“Fallows remains an employee,” Aston Martin told Autosport, without further comment.
Fallows out, Newey in?
The team’s quiet parting with Fallows may be tied to the expected arrival of Adrian Newey. At the very least, it aligns with Aston Martin’s bold push for F1 dominance.
With new technical leadership, the team clearly wants fresh momentum. But was Fallows given enough time? In the high-stakes world of Formula 1, results speak louder than résumés.
I can’t help but wonder if this reshuffle will lead to a breakthrough—or just more pressure.
What’s your take? Should Aston Martin rebuild from within, or bet everything on external stars?
