Red Bull Chief Technical Officer Adrian Newey has suggested that he will “go again” in Formula One while admitting that the idea of working with seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton is not why he “gets up.”

Not the end of the road for Newey

Newey announced his departure from the Red Bull team at the beginning of May, with the British engineer leaving the Milton Keynes team in the first quarter of 2025.

The Briton has won 12 Constructors’ Championships across his career, six of which were won during his tenure under Red Bull.

When asked in a video interview with Oyster Yachts at an event following the Historic Monaco Grand Prix, Newey recognised the popularity of the question of where is next for him but suggested his opinion on switching teams this late in his career may have changed over the past 15 years.

“A popular question at the moment,” said Newey regarding where is next for him in F1.

“I think the easiest way to answer that is if you had asked me 15 years ago, at the age of 65, would I seriously be considering changing teams, going somewhere else and doing another four or five years or whatever. I’d of said you’re absolutely mad.

“I’ve wanted to work in motor racing as a designer since I was the age of eight or ten, and I’ve been lucky enough to fulfil that ambition, to of got that first job and been in motor racing ever since.”

Newey also alluded to the fact that Red Bull was not the end of his motorsport journey and that while he may take a break at some point, he would go again, referencing the famous Tom Hanks film Forrest Gump.

“Every day has been a bonus, really. I just love what I do, so at some point, I guess I’ll have a bit of a holiday.

“As Forrest Gump said at the end of his long run, I feel a little bit tired at the moment, but at some point, I’ll probably go again.”

Could we see Newey and Hamilton together in F1?

Newey spent 17 years at Red Bull before his announcement that he was leaving the team, during which time he oversaw 117 race wins.

Alongside Newey’s departure from a long-standing relationship with a team, F1 was shocked over the winter break when Lewis Hamilton moved to Ferrari after 11 years.

The British driver spoke about how he would enjoy working with Newey if the opportunity arose.

However, The former McLaren man stated that the idea of working with Hamilton is not a huge motivating factor, claiming, “It’s not why I get up. “He went on to explain how Miami was a “really strange race” for him.

”I have to admit, it’s not why I get up,” added Newey.

“Miami is a really strange race for me. The news had just broken in the press on a very unfortunate day; it was the first of May – the 30th anniversary of the horrible events of Imola.

“An unfortunate day for that press release to come out, but the Miami Grand Prix itself was strange because I was there, I was there in a strategy function, hence being on the pit wall. But I wasn’t involved in any of the engineering decisions or any of the engineering meetings.

“I was just being wheeled around for press basically, so kind of not what gets me up.”

Jordan offers his take on Newey’s future

Newey’s manager and fellow Oyster Yacht owner Eddie Jordan, conducted the interview and called Zak Brown up to the stage to ask what the pair’s conversation had been like regarding Newey potentially going to McLaren; however, Brown had already left.

It left Jordan with a closing remark: to the best of his knowledge, no contract has been agreed to.

“There’s no ink on any paper. It doesn’t matter whether it’s blue, black or red. It’s not relevant, and I have the belief that no decision has been made and neither should any decision be made.”
