George Russell has been named the winner of the 2024 Lorenzo Bandini trophy.

The accolade is named after grand prix winner Bandini. The Italian driver raced in Formula 1 for six years where he would win only one race.
However, during the 1967 Monaco Grand Prix, Bandini died from an accident after his opened wheel Ferrari crashed and caught fire at the sea-front chicane.
The award itself is a replica of Bandini’s Ferrari 312 car and is selected by a judging panel of 12 people, which includes former F1 team members and journalists.
Moreover, this honour is given in recognition to a driver or team who show a commendable performance in motorsport. Lando Norris, who is coming off his first win in F1 at the Miami Grand Prix was last year’s recipient of the award. Russell now adds his name to a list of successful drivers who have won the trophy.
A previous winner of the award is none other than the current world champion Max Verstappen, who Russell has spoken about recently stating that he would welcome the idea of partnering alongside the Dutchman at Mercedes.
In addition, Other notable winners include Lewis Hamilton, Michael Schumacher, Fernando Alonso, Nico Rosenberg, Kimi Räikkonen, and many more great names.
as well as celebrating the Bandini trophy, Mercedes also posted on social media to commemorate the 100th anniversary of their victory on the public roads of Sicily at the 1924 Targa Florio.
