Mercedes Formula E Drivers Ready For IndyCar Test

Latest Episode | Cut To The Race Podcast

Mercedes-EQ drivers are ready to test the IndyCar scene next month.

2021 Formula E title winner, Nyck de Vries is set for his first NTT IndyCar Series test with Meyer Shank Racing. The Dutchman is daring to explore alternative endeavors. He could end up with MSR if there’s a driver change among Simon Pagenaud, Helio Castroneves, Oliver Jarvis, or if the team adds a third car in 2023.

Teammate Stoffel Vandoorne will have his first test with Arrow McLaren SP. It’s only fitting as he previously competed in Formula 1 for McLaren up until 2018. Although he’s currently a Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team test driver, his career path could follow former Formula 1 driver, Nico Hulkenberg. When AMSP brings on an additional driver next year, the Belgian could race alongside Pato O’Ward and Felix Rosenqvist.

Granted that the tests go well, we’ll have to see what the Mercedes team thinks. Will Vandoorne and de Vries be able to step in as test and reserve drivers or even race at IndyCar events?

The test will take place at Sebring International Raceway on 06 December. Next year’s Formula E season is scheduled from 28 January to 14 August 2022.
