It’s been a great year for Mclaren Shadow in their Formula One E sports campaign. With 341 points in total, the team took the constructor’s crown, with great help from Lucas Blakeley – the Drivers champion.

With four wins and one podium, out of 12 races, he was able to clinch the title on the last day of the season. Speaking to McLaren, he said:

“I can’t really put into words how I’m feeling right now. It’s more than a dream come true to say that I’m the 2022 F1 Esports Pro Drivers’ Champion.”

He went on to say:

“To win both titles in one season only makes this moment even better. I want to thank Bari, Wilson and the entire McLaren Shadow team as I couldn’t have done this without their support.”

A team game

McLaren have been a force to be reckoned with this season and they were able to comfortably beat the next best team, Red Bull, to the title. Lindsey Eckhouse, Director of licensing and digital products said:

“To win the Constructors’ Championship is a huge achievement and something that the whole McLaren Racing family is proud of. It shows just how far the team has come since we joined the series back in 2018.”

Racing for the team were Lucas Blakeley, Wilson Hughes and Bari Boroumand. The latter finished the campaign in fourth place. He said:

“It’s amazing to be crowned champions and to win it for McLaren is even better. We’ve put in so many hours and worked incredibly hard to get here so it’s great to see it pay off.”

A different era

Much like Formula One, E sports have been on the rise. With names like Jarno Opmeer, and now Lucas Blakeley, making a big splash on social media – could the world of motorsport be changing?

As we have seen before, one driver from the E sports division has already crossed over to F2. Recently, Alumnus Cem Bolukbasi made the switch this season for Charouz Racing System.

McLaren have solidified themselves in nearly every racing series, more notably in Formula One, Formula One E sports and now Formula E. They have now won the world championship in two out of three series. Is it time to complete the trifecta?
