Williams reveal that a new driver is joining their team

21-year-old Luke Browning has been revealed as one of the newest recruits to Williams Racing

Brownings career so far

The young Brit has had alot of success over the course of his career and is definetly a talent to keep up with. With the future looking bright for him, lets look at his past and see how he got to where he is today.

Browning took the big step in 2016, when he moved away from karts and started racing cars. He first started out in the Junior Saloon Car Championship where he picked up his first career win at Brands Hatch. However, his success didn’t stop there, after finishing 9th and a total of 119 points he moved over to the Ginetta Junior Championships in 2017 where he secured a further win and earned a podium for himself.

The following year, the youngester started to show of the type of talent he possesses, achieving six wins and 18 podiums and finishing 3rd overall aged just 14 years old.

Browning then decided to head to the single-seaters for the 2019 season with Fortec Motorsports in F4. In his first ever race he was faced with a wet race. However, the rain didn’t stop him from achieving his first win. He then went on to securing another win and finishing 6th overall in his rookie year.

2020 saw Browning be in the fight for the championship against Zak O’ Sullivan. Browning dominated in the first few races of the year, winning three in a row. He continued to shine throughout the season ending with a further five race wins and finishing out of the top six only two times. After his excellent season he was crowned as the 2020 F4 Champion. He achieved the most points ever in the series history with 412.5 points in total.

After an amazing year in F4, Browning was set to enter the GB3 championship with Hietch GP for 2022 where he continued to dominate. He scored five race wins and 13 podiums, this saw him take the 2022 season crown.

Later that year he was nominated for the Aston Martin Autosport BRDC Young Driver award which he won.

Joining Williams

At the start of 2023 it was confirmed he would be taking the next step in his career and going into the F3 Championship with Hietch GP. Currently he is 10th in the standings and now has been given an exciting opportunity to represent Williams.

The sporting director of Williams, Sven Smeets spoke about how excited he is to have Browning join the team.

“He’s a highly talented driver with several major achievements already under his belt, including the 2022 Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year Award, the 2022 GB3 Championship and the 2020 British F4 Championship. Everyone at Williams Racing is looking forward to working closely with Luke throughout the year as he competes in FIA Formula 3 with Hitech Pulse-Eight.”
Browning had his say on this exciting step in his career.
