The Formula 1 paddock has responded to Adrian Newey’s 2025 move to Aston Martin Aramco F1 team. Newey will join the team as their new Managing Technical Partner.

Among those who shared their thoughts was Charles Leclerc. The Monegasque’s team at Ferrari had shown an interest in the legendary F1 designer’s future after he parted ways with Red Bull Racing.

As reported by Formula 1, Charles Leclerc was asked to comment on Newey’s announcement and whether he was sad not to see the designer joining Ferrari. He replied:

“I would be disappointed if we didn’t try or didn’t speak with Adrian.

“We spoke with Adrian as a team and at the end he made his choice, and I completely respect the choice of Adrian of going somewhere else.”

Emphasising the excellent staff working for the Maranello-based outfit, Leclerc added:

“We have incredible individuals in Ferrari and I believe a lot more in the group.”

He continued:

“In Ferrari, we have always valued the group more than one individual. Of course, Adrian Newey is Adrian Newey and he is incredible for everything he has achieved, but we have incredible individuals in Ferrari and I believe a lot more in the group.

“I’m sure we have the right team to come back at the top. Again, I respect Adrian’s decision […] I wish him the best, but I hope that Ferrari will come out on top.”

Hamilton excited for ‘journey’ with Ferrari team

Lewis Hamilton will join Leclerc at Ferrari next year. Therefore, he was also asked his opinion about Newey’s move. The seven-time world champion responded:

“I mean, I spoke about it before, I think anyone would want to work with Adrian, and it would have been nice, but it’s just one person.

“What I’m most excited about is working with a whole team of people that are passionate and not had a huge amount of success, or at least a championship, in a long, long time. It’ll be great to join that and get on that journey together.”

Certainly, Leclerc and Hamilton’s comments emphasise the collective effort being undertaken behind the scenes at Ferrari. The drivers, team, and fans alike are excited for seven-time world champion, Hamilton to don a red race suit.

It remains to be seen how Newey’s expertise will impact the design of Aston Martin’s future F1 cars. However, their announcement undoubtedly demonstrated a statement of intent for future success.

After Leclerc’s recent victory in Monza, the Tifosi will certainly hope that a Newey-designed Aston Martin does not challenge the success of Hamilton and Leclerc’s team-up.

As the build-up of anticipation and speculation around Newey’s future is resolved, all involved look forward to seeing the results of his design expertise in the 2025 season.
