Ferrari announce changes to its technical structure with former Mercedes man, Loic Serra as the new Technical Director.

Since Frederic Vasseur took over Ferrari at the start of 2023, the Frenchman has made a series of pivotal changes to its technical department.
News broke last month of Technical Director Chassis and Aerodynamics Enrico Cardile announcing his departure after working with the Prancing Horses for over two decades. Cardile will join Aston Martin’s leadership team as the team prepares for the 2026 regulations. He will join with former Red Bull Head of Aerodynamics Dan Fellows and a rumoured Adrian Newey once his gardening leave period has concluded.
Before this departure, Ferrari confirmed two new additions to the team, both of which coming from Mercedes. One of which was, Loic Serra who was set to report to Cardile. However, Serra hasn’t been able to begin work yet due to extended gardening leave.
Serra has an acclaimed motorsports history, working with BMW Sauber F1 team and over a decade with Mercedes. With the announcement of Cardile’s exit, Vasseur in the mean time juggled his role as Team Principal whilst fulfilling the role of the Italian.
New technical director
The team now confirm that Loic Serra will be stepping up as Technical Director Chassis, Serra will commence working with Ferrari on October 1st alongside, Mercedes pal Jerome d’Ambrosio. In his new role, Serra will be carrying out a variety of different responsibilities. In a press release from this morning, Ferrari stated Serra’s new roles within the team:
“Serra will therefore be responsible for the following departments: Chassis Project Engineering, headed up by Fabio Montecchi; Vehicle Performance, headed up by Marco Adurno; Aerodynamics, headed up by Diego Tondi; Track Engineering, headed up by Matteo Togninalli and Chassis Operations, headed up by to Diego Ioverno, who also continues in the role of Sporting Director.”
The Frenchman will be once again reunited with eight-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton when the Briton makes the switch to red for the 2025 season.
Ferrari further highlighted in the press release that Enrico Gualtieri maintains his role as Technical Director Power Unit who reports directly to Vasseur.
The changes come after an incredible victory on home soils in Monza after Charles Leclerc came home with his second victory of the season and Ferrari’s third. The win has closed the gap down in the Constructors Championships to just 39 points separating itself from rivals Red Bull.
