The 2023 Formula 2 season has been everything but easy for Jack Doohan.

Jack went pointless through the first weekend in Bahrain and was only able to pick up a measly two points in the Jeddah Sprint Race.

The following Feature Race in Saudi Arabia has been the only time we have seen quality form from Doohan this year. Jack was able to bag a podium, and a haul of 18 points, but was unable to challenge Vesti for the win.

Since hoisting his lone trophy for the season, Doohan has had a rather poor stretch in performance. He would only manage to score points in 4 of the next 8 races.

Jack has been a part of the Alpine family since the beginning of the 2022 Formula 2 season, after parting ways with the Red Bull Academy.

At the start of the 2023 Formula One season, Alpine F1 promoted Doohan to the role of reserve driver.

When it came to his decision to join the French Team early last season, he said,

“It’s coming to a point where it’s make-or-break in Formula 2 and there’s nothing really to go back on, so I had to make the decision what I wanted to do to become a better driver, and Alpine was that.”

And a better driver he became. In his first full season in F2, Doohan would find himself finishing P6 in the Driver’s Championship and bagging 3 wins for the Virtuosi Racing Team.

Unfortunately, The young Australian driver has not displayed that level of dominance throughout the 2023 season.

However, Alpine F1 Team Boss Otmar Szafnauer has been there to back his F2 driver in every way possible.

When asked about Doohan’s season thus far, Szafnauer was very hopeful for Alpine’s ability to prepare him for Formula One in the near future.

“He’s a good racing driver and works really hard, he’s intelligent and he’s got a future ahead of him. We continue to prepare him for Formula 1″

The state of Alpine’s driver lineup is set until at least the end of the 2024 season.

However, with speculations of a Lewis Hamilton departure, if Esteban Ocon were to be recalled by his former academy team, Alpine would’ve prepared the perfect driver to take over the reigns.

Nonetheless, Doohan had one of his stronger weekends of his season during his last outing in Barcelona, and he has his sights set on a win in Austria.
