Mohammed Ben Sulayem has reportedly been called out by Paul Scriven,a Liberal Democrat life peer.
The FIA boss, Mohammed Ben Sulayem has been criticised by one House of Lords member after allegedly failing to reply to a concerned letter last year about Formula One events held in the Gulf region. Broke exclusively by The Independent, Scriven had allegedly called Ben Sulayem “discourteous and unprofessional” for ignoring the letter.
In a letter addressed to Ben Sulayem, the House of Lords member allegedly wrote: “Why do you think you can ignore parliamentarians? Do you think that concerns raised over human rights and the policies of the FIA should be above scrutiny?”
Ben Sulayem replaced the former FIA president, Jean Todt last year and he has been busy installing new rules and regulations onto Formula 1. He has recently fell under fire for a warning to Formula 1’s owners over commercial rights.
The original
The original letter was shared by Paul Scriven on his Twitter account.
Dear @Ben_Sulayem,
Yesterday, 90 European parliamentarians sent you this letter, which hasn’t yet been acknowledged.
Please ensure the @fia & @F1 heed these calls & put an urgent end to their sportswashing of ongoing abysmal violations in #Bahrain & the Gulf. pic.twitter.com/nCuYXOFhiJ— Paul Scriven?️?? (@Paulscriven) March 17, 2022
The end of the letter stated:
“We are concerned that the FIA and F1 are actively facilitating sports washing in Gulf countries.”
The letter was sent to the current FIA president in March of last year. It later went on to say: “We thus urge the FIA to apply the same standards of human rights across all countries.” Scriven Tweeted that there were 90 Europeans parliamentarians that sent the unacknowledged letters.
