This announcement follows substantial upgrades to the historic Autodromo Nazionale Monza, which hosted 335,000 fans during the 2024 Grand Prix, showcasing the circuit’s enduring appeal and its central role in Formula 1 history.

The future of the Italian Grand Prix

After announcing a new six-year contract extension, the Italian Grand Prix at Monza will remain a fixture on the Formula 1 calendar until at least 2031. The agreement builds on the current deal, which runs through 2025, and ensures the continuation of one of the sport’s most iconic races.

This decision comes from significant upgrades to the Autodromo Nazionale Monza. These improvements were unveiled ahead of the 2024 Grand Prix, which drew a record crowd of 335,000 fans and saw Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc secure a memorable victory for the Tifosi.

Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali expressed his excitement about the extension, emphasizing Monza’s rich heritage and its unique atmosphere, fueled by passionate fans. “I am delighted that the Italian Grand Prix will remain on the calendar until 2031. Monza is at the very heart of Formula 1 history, and the atmosphere each year is unique as the Tifosi gather in huge numbers to cheer on Ferrari and the drivers,” he said.

Domenicali also highlighted the commitment shown by local and national stakeholders, stating, “The recent upgrades to the circuit’s infrastructure and the planned investment show a strong commitment to the long-term future of Formula 1 in Italy. I want to thank the President of the Automobile Club d’Italia, the Italian Government, and the Lombardy Region for their continued passion and commitment to our sport.”

Support from the Government

The Autodromo Nazionale Monza, known as “The Temple of Speed,” has been a cornerstone of Formula 1 since its inception, hosting every Italian Grand Prix since 1950 except for 1980. Located near Milan, this historic circuit features one of the fastest laps in the sport, with drivers on full throttle for 80% of its 5.8-kilometer length.

Angelo Sticchi Damiani, President of the Automobile Club d’Italia, also praised the agreement and its significance for the circuit’s future. “It’s a great honour for us… to have succeeded in guaranteeing the hosting of six more Italian Grand Prix F1 seasons at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza after 2025,” he said.

Sticchi Damiani also acknowledged the vital role of Government and regional support in achieving this milestone. “We must thank the valuable and decisive contribution of the current President and CEO of Formula 1 Group, Stefano Domenicali… and all the local institutions that have allowed the Italian Grand Prix to attract, during the last editions, an ever-increasing number of enthusiastic fans,” he added.

With further improvements planned, including enhanced hospitality offerings, Monza is positioning itself to meet the evolving demands of modern Formula 1 while continuing its storied legacy.
