Coming into the first qualifying session after the summer break, Albon and Williams knew they needed to improve on their performance from the first half of the season, as they currently sit in ninth in the Constructors’ Championship on just four points.

The Grove based team’s day looked to have started in the worst way possible fashion after Logan Sargeant had a massive crash in FP3. Despite the best efforts from the team, the American did not feature in qualifying at all.

However, there would be some good news for Williams after Albon’s pace in qualifying at Zandvoort would see him set to start tomorrow’s race from P8 on the grid, or so he thought.

Following the conclusion of qualifying, which saw Lando Norris claim pole position,it was announced that Albon’s FW46 was under investigation by the stewards after its aerodynamic components and body work were checked after the session.

In addition to this, the Technical Delegate’s report stated that car number 23’s “floor body was found to lie outside the regulatory volume mentioned in Article 3.5.1 a).”

The Stewards disqualify Albon

After a lengthy wait, it was confirmed that Albon had been disqualified from qualifying. This could potentially mean that Williams do not have enough spare parts for the floor to revert it back in someway to comply with the regulations.

Therefore, this now means that the 28-year-old will start at the back of the grid for Sunday’s race alongside his team-mate.

Lewis Hamilton also received a three-place grid penalty for impeding Sergio Perez in qualifying. He will now start the Dutch Grand Prix from P15.

Can Williams bounce back in tomorrow’s grand prix? Or will this setback be too much for the Grove based team to turn around?
