Alex Albon is exploring the NTT INDYCAR SERIES in Indianapolis this weekend.

The 25-year old took a walk around the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway to see the paddock and speak with team owners.

Alex acknowledged, “I want to see what’s out there. My main goal is to be in F1, but there’s never a 100 percent certainty on that, so you got to have plan B and C to see what else is out there. I’ve always had that interest within INDYCAR. You see it on the rise now, especially with the viewership and everything going up.

At the moment, Albon is a test and reserve driver for Red Bull. He’s also racing in the 2021 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters alongside Liam Lawson. In 2019, Alex was in 12 races for Red Bull and 9 races for Aston Martin totalling 92 points to finish 8th in the season. During 2020, he participated in 17 races to achieve 105 points and finish 7th for the season.

In America, the Thai driver reunited with former F1 driver Romain Grosjean. Then he discussed potential with Dale Coyne Racing and Rick Ware Racing. Alex enjoyed taking a seat in the No. 52 Nurtec ODT Honda.

Alex was fascinated by the cockpit experience. The aeroscreen caught his attention since Red Bull Advanced Technologies contributed to designing the cockpit protection device.

Albon appeared to be interested in the racing series after seeing Grosjean‘s great performance and progress.

The reserve driver said, “Seeing Romain, as well, seeing what he’s doing, it’s been really interesting to see. I just wanted to see what he thinks about it. Is he happy? Of course, he’s happy. He’s always got a smile on his face. How was that transition for him, and how did he feel in INDYCAR straight away? He looks very comfortable here.

Alex admitted that he’s never seen the NTT INDYCAR SERIES in person. He also shared that he watched INDYCAR as a child. His favourite driver was Sebastien Bourdais. The French professional driver has one of the most successful racing records in the American Championship with 37 race wins.

After the summer break, Albon will resume racing in the 2021 DTM Championship.

It looks as though Alex is checking what’s out there to decide what might be the best in the future. Maybe he will continue in Formula 1 but if not there are other opportunities ahead.

The Big Machine Spiked Coolers Grand Prix begins at 17:30 GMT. Check it out here.
