Ralph Schumacher has expressed his thoughts on Logan Sargeant’s first season in Formula 1. Sargeant is the only full-time driver currently on the grid to have yet to score a point. However, his teammate Alex Albon has pulled Williams up the championship order to seventh in the standings. He has scored 21 points so far.

But even with the challenging start, Sargeant has shown promise finishing P12 in his first race and making Q3 for the first time in Zandvoort, out-qualifying seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton.

According to R. Schumacher though, Williams would be better served by his nephew, who has a proven F1 pedigree with Haas. Speaking on Mick Schumacher and Sargeant, the former F1 driver told Formel1.de’s YouTube channel:

“I think Logan Sargeant is overwhelmed. Those are also the reasons why he’s having these accidents.

“He’s trying to force it now, he’s getting desperate… But he’s still developing, and the problems remain the same. So, I believe his days are somewhat numbered.”

There have been long links with Williams and M. Schumacher, with it rumoured that the German could’ve been given the seat currently owned by Sargeant. M. Schumacher has a good pedigree having won the F2 championship before joining Haas.

Currently a reserve driver for Mercedes, Schumacher has also impressed other team bosses during his time in F1. R. Schumacher continued expressing his thoughts, saying:

“You can see it now with what he’s doing in the simulator.

“Zak Brown came to me after he tested [at McLaren], and I don’t have much contact with Zak but before his interview, he came to me and said, ‘Man, I have to say, Mick did a great job in the test. I just wanted to tell you.’

“That was a nice piece of information. So, I would find it a shame if he doesn’t get the chance.”

Money is a factor

The main thing that is important when teams are looking for a new driver is obviously the ability and track record of that driver. However, money is a factor and R. Schumacher comments on that. The German said:

“I’m curious to see who will come in there. I mean, there’s [Felipe] Drugovich, who’s also waiting with a lot of money.

“At the moment, it’s still somewhat about money. So, I’m curious to see what happens there.”

Williams have yet to confirm whether or not Sargeant will be the second driver for 2024, but m. Schumacher could be a potential option.
